About Lionel

Lionel Martin built his legal foundations in the Midwest and finished his formal training in Houston. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Wisconsin 6Whitewater in 1996. He went on to law school at the University of Houston, graduating with a J.D. in 1999.

After law school, he gained admission to practice in multiple jurisdictions. He is licensed in Texas and Colorado, and he is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Those admissions allow him to handle matters that arise at both the state and federal levels.

His early years in practice involved the ordinary work many young attorneys encounter: managing case files, appearing in court, and learning the procedural rules that shape litigation. Over time he has handled a range of matters that required courtroom appearances and federal appellate filings. He has remained active in bar-related activities and maintains current professional memberships.

Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic. He tends to approach disputes with an eye toward process and precedent. He prepares for hearings methodically and respects the rhythms of appellate briefing. His experience across two state systems and a federal circuit gives him familiarity with differing procedural landscapes.

When cases require written argument, he relies on concise briefs that emphasize clear record citations and orderly analysis. When a matter heads to the courtroom, he balances practical settlement negotiating with careful trial preparation. That combination has informed his approach to handling client matters that cross state lines or involve federal appellate review.

Outside of specific casework, he has pursued continuing legal education and kept abreast of court decisions in his admitted jurisdictions. He follows developments at the state and federal level that affect litigation practice, especially those emerging from Texas courts and the Fifth Circuit. He uses that awareness to advise clients on how procedural changes may affect strategy.

Today he continues to practice law across the jurisdictions where he is admitted. He represents clients in both state and federal forums and handles trial and appellate matters that arise in those courts. He currently focuses on representing clients in state and federal courts.
