About Linda S.

Linda S. Melancon earned a B.A. in Business Administration and History from Mercer University (1982) and a J.D. from Louisiana State University (1997). She combined an understanding of business and historical context with legal training, a background that later informed her work advising families and fiduciaries. Her education laid the groundwork for a practice framed by documents, rules, and the practical needs of aging clients.

She began her legal career in the mid-1990s as an attorney at Percy, Pujol & Wall. Those early years offered the day-to-day experience of client work and case management. She developed procedural habits and client-facing skills that would prove useful when she opened her own office.

In 2002 Melancon founded Legacy Estate & Elder Law of Louisiana, LLC and has operated the firm since then. She holds board certification as an Estate Planning and Administration Specialist from the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that reflects additional training and examination in that area of law. At Legacy she handles matters that commonly arise for older adults, families managing estates, and trustees and executors tasked with administration of assets.

Melancon maintains an active presence in professional and community organizations. She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and participates in the Louisiana Elder Law Task Force. She belongs to national and niche groups that address elder law and special needs planning, including The Life Care Planning Law Office Association, The Academy of Special Needs Planners, and ElderCounsel. Locally she serves on boards such as the Ascension Parish Council on Aging and the ARC of East Ascension, and she participates in the Baton Rouge Association of Women Lawyers and the Baton Rouge Aging Network.

Her practice is based in Louisiana at Legacy Estate & Elder Law of Louisiana, LLC, where she works with clients on planning for incapacity and end-of-life issues, and on the administration of estates. Melancon’s current practice centers on estate planning, administration, elder law, special needs planning, and life care planning matters in Louisiana.
