About Linda Lea

Linda Lea Viken is a seasoned family law attorney based in Rapid City, South Dakota. She has been practicing law since 1978, specializing in family law and mediation. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota School of Law in 1977 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Education from the University of South Dakota in 1967. In 1983, she became the first woman to serve as a Magistrate Judge in Pennington County, South Dakota. She has also served twice in the South Dakota State Legislature, representing Minnehaha County and later Pennington County. In 2013, she was honored as the South Dakota Trial Lawyer of the Year by the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, becoming the first family law specialist to receive this award. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a diplomate of the American College of Family Trial Lawyers. She has served as the President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has been involved in various leadership roles within the organization. She has also been a member of the Uniform Law Commission's Joint Editorial Board for Family Law. In 2015, she was named Outstanding Alumnus by the University of South Dakota School of Law.
