About Lewis

Lewis Ledyard graduated from Villanova University School of Law in 1990. He earned his J.D. after completing an undergraduate course of study elsewhere and entered the legal profession at the start of the 1990s. His legal education dates him among a generation of lawyers who bridged traditional commercial practice and the rise of complex cross-border finance.

He is licensed to practice in Delaware. Over the years he has built a practice tied to commercial law and to matters that touch on international equipment financing. He has been active in professional groups that shape rules and best practices for secured transactions and aviation finance.

Ledyard serves in several professional associations. He holds a current membership in a Commercial Law Section. He also participates in the American Bar Association’s Section of Business Law, where he is involved with the Trustee Subcommittee of the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment on Matters Specific to Aircraft Equipment, commonly called the Cape Town Convention. He is also part of the Drafting Committee of the Aviation Working Group, a role that places him among practitioners who review and propose language used in international aviation finance instruments.

His career has taken place at Morris James LLP. There he has worked on matters that require an understanding of secured transactions law, creditor and debtor rights, and the specialized rules that govern interests in aircraft and other high-value mobile equipment. He works with client teams on contract terms, drafting of financing documents, and the interpretation of statutes and international conventions that affect cross-border asset-based lending.

Colleagues describe him as practical in approach and methodical in handling complex documents. He often appears in group settings for drafting sessions and technical reviews rather than in headline litigation. His association work informs his day-to-day practice; the drafting and review tasks at the ABA intersect with the transactional work he performs at the firm.

He continues to practice at Morris James LLP, where his work covers commercial law and matters related to the Cape Town Convention and aircraft financing.
