About Leonard Edward Sienko
Leonard Edward Sienko Jr trained first in the liberal arts and theology before turning to the law. He earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Theology from Boston College in 1964, studied ethics at Andover Newton Theological School in 1968, and received his J.D. from Boston College Law School in 1974. Those years framed a practice that would move between courtroom contests, tax matters and administrative hearings.
Soon after law school he established an independent practice. In 1978 he opened The Sienko Law Office and has run it as a sole proprietor. He is admitted to practice in New York, before the Northern District of New York and has credentials to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. Over the decades his small office handled a broad mix of matters typical for rural and county practice.
Public appointments and courtroom work became a steady part of his professional life. In 1983 he served as a Delaware County estate tax lawyer, appointed as a district tax lawyer and appraiser for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. A decade later he worked as a court lawyer in the trial part for Delaware County Court, and he appeared frequently in Delaware County Surrogate and Family Courts in 1993, carrying a substantial trial load.
He combined private practice with public service on educational and administrative fronts. From 1980 until his retirement from that role in 2013, he served as an Impartial Hearing Officer under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act for the New York State Education Department. He also taught as an adjunct faculty member at the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi in 2001, bringing practical courtroom and administrative experience into the classroom.
Sienko took on leadership roles in the local bar association over a sustained period. He served as treasurer of the Delaware County Bar Association from 1987 to 1989, secretary from 1989 to 1991, vice-president from 1991 to 1993, and president from 1993 to 1995. Those posts overlapped with active courtroom calendars and administrative appointments.
Today he maintains The Sienko Law Office as a solo practice. His career combines estate tax appointments, surrogate and family court work, civil trials and administrative hearings. He currently practices at The Sienko Law Office, handling estate, family, surrogate and trial matters.
