About Lawrence

Lawrence Wilson combines a varied academic background with decades of legal work. He holds a J.D. from The University of Toledo College of Law and an MBA from the University of Toledo. Earlier, he completed undergraduate studies in psychology at Aquinas College and business administration at Grand Valley State University. He also earned a master’s degree in taxation later in his career.

Wilson completed his legal education in the early 1980s. He took business courses alongside his law studies and left school with both a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration in 1982. That blend of legal training and business coursework informed his early choices after law school and has continued to shape the kinds of matters he accepts.

His career includes significant service in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and served in that capacity in 2001. That period added federal and military perspectives to an already broad practice. In private and public roles he has handled matters that intersect tax, business, and federal litigation.

Wilson is admitted in Michigan and in several federal forums, including the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Federal District Court, and the Sixth Circuit. Those admissions reflect the two principal strands of his work: tax law and federal court litigation. He represents clients in tax controversies, business disputes that reach federal court, and matters that require appellate practice. He also draws on his military legal experience when representing veterans and service members.

He currently practices at the Ada Law Center. His daily work ranges from advising business owners on transactional and tax questions to litigating disputes in federal court and the tax court. Colleagues describe him as methodical in approaching complex statutes and regulations. He often breaks complicated rules into clear steps for clients who are not lawyers.

Wilson maintains active memberships in professional associations and participates in continuing legal education to keep current on changes in tax law and federal procedure. He has balanced private practice and public service throughout his career, moving between courtroom advocacy and client counseling. Today he focuses his practice on tax matters, business-related litigation, and federal-level cases.
