About Lawrence P.

Lawrence P. Zale has spent more than two decades working on intellectual property matters for both corporations and in private practice. He built a career inside industry legal departments before opening his own practice. His early roles shaped a practical approach to patent work and IP strategy.

Zale's corporate tenure began in the late 1990s. In 1998 he served as Senior Intellectual Property Counsel for Tyco Healthcare Group LP, which later became Covidien. There he handled a range of patent and IP issues tied to medical products and technologies. The position placed him at the intersection of engineering, product development, and legal risk assessment.

A decade later he moved to the energy sector. In 2008 Zale joined ALSTOM Power Inc. as Senior Intellectual Property Counsel. That role broadened his exposure to heavy industry inventions, licensing matters, and cross-border patent concerns. He advised on prosecution strategy and supported commercialization activities tied to power-generation technologies.

In 2012 Zale shifted again, taking a senior patent prosecution counsel role at G.T.C. Law Group LLP & Affiliates. That position emphasized drafting and prosecuting patent applications and coordinating work with outside counsel. It also involved directing patent portfolio development for clients that spanned multiple technical fields.

He launched his own firm in 2014. As owner of Zale Patent Law, Inc., he began representing clients under his own name and through related entities. His practice has handled patent preparation and prosecution, patentability assessments, and IP counseling for inventors, startups, and small companies. He has continued to work across diverse technologies, applying the practical lessons learned in industry to client matters.

Colleagues describe Zale as a lawyer who prefers clear analysis and straightforward advice. He writes patent specifications and prosecution responses with an eye toward how inventions will be used in the marketplace. That perspective informs decisions about claim drafting and enforcement priorities.

Outside of client work, Zale has experience managing IP workflows and coordinating teams of technical specialists and outside counsel. He has operated both as in-house counsel and as a private practitioner, giving him familiarity with the differing pressures of corporate and client-side practices. He maintains offices under his personal name and through Zale Patent Law, Inc./Zale Tech Law. His current practice concentrates on patent prosecution, counseling on patentability and portfolio development, and related intellectual property matters.
