About Lawrence J.

Lawrence J. McClafferty studied at Boston College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts. He went on to receive his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law. Those academic years laid the groundwork for a steady career in Virginia law.

He began building his practice in the region's courtrooms and now serves as a principal at McCandlish & Lillard, P.C. His role at the firm places him in a leadership position, overseeing client matters and contributing to the firm's case strategy. Colleagues describe him as methodical and thorough in his preparation, qualities that surface in how he approaches filings and hearings.

Mr. McClafferty is admitted to a range of courts that span federal and state jurisdictions. His admissions include the Eastern District of Virginia, the Virginia Court of Appeals, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, U.S. District Courts, and U.S. Bankruptcy Courts. Those credentials allow him to take cases from trial level through the appellate process and to represent parties in bankruptcy proceedings when required.

He remains active in the legal community. He holds memberships in the Loudoun County Bar Association, the Virginia Bar Association, and the Virginia State Bar. He also served as president of the Loudoun County Bar Association in 2007. That year in office involved organizing association activities, coordinating with local judges and practitioners, and helping steer programs for area lawyers.

Over the years McClafferty has handled a variety of matters that have required appearances in both trial and appellate settings. He spends time preparing briefs, arguing motions, and advising clients on litigation strategy. His work at the firm includes collaboration with other attorneys on complex procedural issues and on matters that intersect with federal bankruptcy and district court practice.

Outside the courtroom he contributes to the profession through bar participation. Participation in local and statewide associations has kept him connected to changes in court rules and practice expectations. He continues to maintain an active role in regional legal circles while carrying his responsibilities at McCandlish & Lillard.

He currently practices at McCandlish & Lillard, P.C., representing clients in state and federal courts.
