About Lawrence E. Crary
Lawrence E. Crary III took a conventional path into law, earning a B.A. from the University of Florida in 1974 and a J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1977. He completed his legal training in the 1970s and went on to build a practice rooted in the Treasure Coast community. His education at Gainesville set the stage for a long career split between private practice and public service roles.
Early in his career he joined the firm that would become Crary Buchanan. Over time he rose to the position of shareholder. He has balanced firm responsibilities with a steady role as counsel and adviser to local organizations. That mix of private practice and institutional work has defined much of his professional life.
He is admitted to practice in Florida and in the federal circuits that cover much of the Southeast, including the Eleventh Circuit and the Fifth Circuit. He holds memberships in the Florida Bar, the American Bar Association and the Martin County Bar Association. Those admissions and memberships reflect a practice that crosses both state and federal lines.
Beyond courtroom work, he has taken on numerous governance and counsel roles. He serves as general counsel to the Martin County Industrial Development Authority and to Martin - St. Lucie Habitat for Humanity, Inc. He is also general counsel for Jesus House of Hope, Inc., and for Nina Haven Scholarships, where he serves as a director as well. He acts as director and secretary of St. Lucie River Initiative, Inc., and holds leadership duties at the Treasure Coast Astronomical Society as a director and vice president. His community roles include serving as a deacon in his Roman Catholic parish.
Those positions place him at the intersection of law, local government and nonprofit management. He advises boards, reviews governance documents, and handles legal matters that arise for public authorities and charitable organizations. The variety of his assignments has kept him engaged in municipal, nonprofit and civic affairs for decades.
Today he maintains his practice as a shareholder at Crary Buchanan. He represents clients in Florida and in the federal courts where he is admitted, and he continues to serve as general counsel to several local public authorities and nonprofit organizations. He practices law from the Treasure Coast, balancing firm work with ongoing community service.
