About Laurie
Laurie McFadden brought a late but deliberate turn toward the law after an earlier life in the arts. She completed a B.A. in Art History at the University of Michigan in 1968, followed by an M.A. in 19th and 20th Century Art and Sculpture from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London in 1972. More than two decades later she earned her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1996. The path through two distinct fields has left her with an uncommon mix of cultural perspective and legal training.
After graduating from NYU Law, McFadden built a practice in New York. She now operates as a solo lawyer under the Law Office of Laurie McFadden. Her name has also appeared in academic settings. In 2014 she served as supervising lawyer for the Business Law Transactions Clinic at New York University School of Law, guiding students through practical transactional work and overseeing clinic matters.
Colleagues and clients see a lawyer who moves comfortably between transactional detail and broader business concerns. She is admitted in New York and holds memberships in several bar associations, including the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Sullivan County Bar Association. Those memberships reflect an interest in both statewide and local legal communities.
McFadden’s earlier academic training in art history and sculpture is an unusual backdrop for a transactional attorney. That background informs her analytical approach and sometimes shapes the kinds of clients who seek her out. Over the years she has combined careful document work with practical business counseling. She has worked on contracts, formation documents and related business matters that require precision and an eye for language.
Her stint supervising the NYU Business Law Transactions Clinic gave her a role in legal education as well as practice. There, she oversaw law students engaged in real-world transactional projects, reviewing drafts and advising on negotiation strategy. The clinic work reinforced her practical emphasis: sound paperwork and clear, manageable solutions.
Today McFadden maintains her solo practice in New York. She continues to advise small businesses and individuals on business and transactional matters and remains active in both local and national bar organizations. Her current practice concentrates on business and transactional matters.
