About Laurel A.
Laurel A. Salley earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge before completing her J.D. at Tulane University School of Law in 1998. Her academic path combined an interest in behavioral science with formal legal training, a pairing that would inform much of her later work in family law.
While at Tulane, Salley served as a research assistant in 1997 to A.N. Yiannopoulos, the Eason-Weinmann Professor of Comparative Law and Editor of the Louisiana Civil Code. That role placed her close to research on Louisiana’s civil law tradition and gave early exposure to statutory interpretation and comparative legal analysis. Those responsibilities came during the period she was completing her legal studies and preparing for practice in Louisiana.
After law school, Salley built a practice in the state where she trained. She holds board certification as a Family Law Specialist from the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization, a credential that recognizes experience and examination in the field. Her professional affiliations include long-standing membership in the Jefferson Bar Association since 1998 and participation in local civic life through the Lakeside Kiwanis Club, where she has been involved since 1997.
Salley has taken on leadership roles within the Jefferson Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section, serving sequentially as secretary from 2001 to 2002, chair elect from 2002 to 2003, and chairman from 2003 to 2004. Earlier civic service included terms on the Lakeside Kiwanis Club’s Board of Directors from 1997 to 2001 and a term as vice president from 1997 to 1998. These positions reflect sustained engagement in professional organizations and community groups over many years rather than sporadic activity.
She practices at Salley & Salley, where she handles family law matters. Her work encompasses the practical tasks of counseling clients, preparing pleadings, and appearing in court on issues related to divorce, child custody, support, and related domestic matters. She remains active in the Jefferson area bar and local civic organizations and continues to apply her background in psychology and civil law to family law practice.
