About Laura
Laura Rovner came to law after an undergraduate course of study in philosophy and psychology. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1990. She then attended Cornell Law School, where she received her J.D. in 1993, and continued her studies at Georgetown University Law Center, completing an LL.M. in 1995. Those formative years combined liberal arts questions with formal legal training and helped shape her approach to teaching and scholarship.
Her academic career took root in Colorado. In 2004 she joined the faculty of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and has served there as a professor of law. Over the years she has taught students across different levels of legal education and taken part in the administrative life of the law school. Her work at the University of Denver has involved classroom teaching, advising students, and participating in faculty governance.
Rovner is admitted to the Colorado bar and has maintained active membership in the Colorado State Bar since 2004. That professional registration runs alongside her academic appointment. She brings the perspective of a licensed attorney into the classroom, translating professional standards and practical considerations into materials that students can use as they prepare for careers in law.
Her academic background in philosophy and psychology continues to inform her approach to legal questions. She often frames doctrinal material by considering underlying conceptual issues and human behavior. Colleagues and students describe her as someone who engages complex problems in clear terms and who expects rigorous analysis in both written and oral work.
At the University of Denver Sturm College of Law she has been part of efforts to develop curricula and support experiential learning opportunities. She has supervised clinical and experiential programs and mentored students pursuing both litigation and non-litigation paths. Her scholarship has appeared in outlets that address legal doctrine, pedagogy, and interdisciplinary issues, reflecting the range of her interests.
She remains based at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and balances teaching, scholarship, and service to the law school community. Her current practice is concentrated on teaching and scholarship at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
