About Laura M.
Laura M. Nesbitt earned her law degree from Capital University Law School after completing undergraduate studies at Xavier University. Her academic path combined liberal arts and professional training. It set the stage for a career centered on bankruptcy, insolvency and consumer issues in Ohio.
She is licensed to practice in Ohio and became active in local and statewide bar organizations early in her career. She has been a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association since 2007. Her involvement in those groups includes service on the Columbus Bar Association Bankruptcy Committee, a role that connected her to other practitioners handling complex restructuring and insolvency matters.
Nesbitt’s professional network extends into organizations that focus on consumer education and women in the profession. She has served on the Board of Trustees of the Consumer Education Coalition and has been involved with the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation since 2009, where she served as Immediate Past Co-Chair. She joined the Women Lawyers of Franklin County in 2013 and has been active with the Central Ohio Association for Justice since 2014, where she has also served as Bankruptcy Chair. Those positions reflect a practice that intersects consumer protection and bankruptcy law, and they have kept her engaged with both policy and practitioner communities.
In private practice Nesbitt opened The Nesbitt Law Office, LLC. She runs the firm as its owner and lawyer. She handles matters that arise out of consumer financial distress and bankruptcy proceedings. Colleagues and clients refer to her experience in chapter proceedings and creditor-debtor disputes, and she continues to take part in professional programs and committees that address changes in bankruptcy law and consumer protections.
Her work combines courtroom experience, committee participation and nonprofit board service. She has balanced case work with leadership roles in specialty bar groups that address insolvency and consumer education. Today she continues to operate The Nesbitt Law Office, LLC and to serve clients in bankruptcy, insolvency and consumer-related matters.
