About Laura

Laura Darby took a conventional path into law that nevertheless tells something about how she thinks. She earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from DePaul University in 2008, where a pre-law concentration introduced her to ethical reasoning and argumentation. Those years studying logic and moral theory preceded a return to formal legal studies more than a decade later.

She received her J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2021. Law school sharpened the skills she had begun to develop as an undergraduate. It also placed her in a cohort of young lawyers entering practice during a period of change in courts and firms. Since graduating she has been practicing in Illinois and is an attorney at Anderson Boback & Marshall.

Colleagues describe her approach as methodical. She favors clear explanations over rhetoric. That preference traces back to her philosophical training and the careful reading required in law school. In practice she has had to move between detailed legal research and practical problem-solving. The result is a style that balances attention to doctrine with attention to clients’ immediate concerns.

Her professional life has unfolded entirely within Illinois. Admitted to practice in that jurisdiction, she engages with the state’s statutory and procedural landscape on a daily basis. The record here does not catalogue specific cases or published articles, and she has not been associated broadly with a public leadership role in bar groups. Still, she maintains the routine professional memberships common among newer members of the bar.

Day-to-day, Darby’s work at Anderson Boback & Marshall involves advising clients, preparing filings and appearing in court when required. The firm’s work provides a setting in which a young lawyer can handle a variety of tasks and build courtroom and negotiation experience. Her educational background gives her a steadying influence when cases demand close textual analysis or layered legal argument.

Outside the office she remains tied to the intellectual habits that led her to law: reading carefully, testing assumptions and explaining complex ideas in plain language. That outlook has shaped how she manages client conversations and courtroom presentations. She currently practices at Anderson Boback & Marshall in Illinois, where her work focuses on serving clients through the firm’s legal services.
