About Laura

Laura Breckenridge went to law school at the University of Oklahoma and earned her J.D. in 2000. She wrote for the American Indian Law Review while there. Before that she completed a B.A. in political science at Norfolk State University in 1997. At Norfolk State she captained the forensics and debate team, an experience that shaped her early interest in courtroom work and public argument.

Her career track is straightforward. She opened a solo practice, Breckenridge & Associates PC, in 2005. A decade later she took on a senior leadership role at Breckenridge & Davis in 2015. That move shifted her day-to-day from running a solo shop to managing cases and mentoring younger lawyers in a firm setting. The public record shows her active practice in Michigan.

Colleagues note that her academic background informed her approach to cases. Work on the American Indian Law Review points to a grounding in that subject. Her undergraduate study in political science and time leading a debate team reflect an early training in persuasion and analysis. Those elements appear in her written work and courtroom style.

Her practice has involved the kinds of tasks a litigating attorney undertakes: drafting pleadings, arguing motions, and preparing witnesses. She has experience handling case strategy and the operational side of running a practice. Over the years she has balanced client needs with administrative duties, both as a solo practitioner and later as a senior partner.

Clients and other lawyers who have worked with her describe a lawyer who is methodical and direct in court. She tends to approach problems by breaking them into discrete issues and addressing each in turn. She also spends time mentoring junior attorneys and supervising case preparation when the matter requires multiple hands.

Breckenridge keeps ties to the legal community in Michigan and maintains an active practice there. Her work is informed by her background in American Indian law and political science, and she practices in Michigan today.
