About Larry Staton

Larry Staton Jr. built a foundation in law and economics that shaped the early arc of his career. He earned a B.A. in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida in 1996, then stayed at UCF to complete an M.A. in Applied Economics in 2000. He finished his legal education at Florida A&M University College of Law in 2003. Those three degrees reflect an uncommon pairing of legal training and formal economic study.

After law school Staton entered practice licensed in more than one state. He is admitted to the bars of Florida and North Carolina, and his work has crossed state lines on multiple matters. His academic background in applied economics appears frequently in how he approaches legal questions, especially where financial, regulatory, or transactional details matter. He tends to look at disputes through both doctrinal and numerical lenses.

Colleagues describe him as methodical in the way he prepares a case or structures a transaction. He pays attention to documents and data, and he expects the same level of care from counterparties. That approach serves both litigation and transactional work; it is useful in assessing damages, drafting agreements, and identifying regulatory risks. Over time, the combination of legal training and economic analysis has become a practical tool rather than a thesis topic.

Staton’s career has required him to manage practical challenges that come with practicing in two jurisdictions. That includes coordinating filings, timing strategy around differing court calendars, and staying current on two sets of procedural rules. Those logistical demands shape how he plans a matter from intake through resolution. They also influence how he staffs matters and communicates with clients who have operations in more than one state.

Outside the office, his academic path suggests an interest in the intersection of law and public policy, particularly where economic incentives drive behavior. He has maintained that interest as a lens for evaluating cases and advising clients. He currently maintains a cross-jurisdictional practice in Florida and North Carolina, handling matters that require coordination across those states.
