Larry Philip Schiffer is an attorney specializing in insurance and reinsurance law, bringing over 43 years of experience to his practice. He founded Schiffer Law & Consulting PLLC on August 1, 2020, after nearly four decades with both boutique and global law firms. His extensive background in the legal field gave him a unique perspective on complex insurance matters. Mr. Schiffer earned his Juris Doctor cum laude from Albany Law School in 1979. He was an active member of the Albany Law Review and the Justinian Society. Prior to this, he completed his undergraduate studies magna cum laude at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York in 1976.
Admitted to the New York State Bar in 1980, Mr. Schiffer has built a distinguished career focused on insurance and reinsurance litigation, arbitration, and mediation. His expertise encompasses many issues, including claims disputes, policy wording analysis, insurance insolvency, and due diligence for transactions involving insurance or reinsurance components. Before establishing his own practice, Mr. Schiffer served as a senior partner at Squire Patton Boggs (US) LLP from June 2014 to July 2020. During this time, he represented a lead blanket bond insurer in a significant declaratory judgment action concerning claims arising from the notorious Madoff Ponzi scheme.
He also played a crucial role for a major reinsurer in the Unicover debacle, participating in a confidential multi-party arbitration and related litigation that involved complex legal challenges. In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Schiffer has been actively involved in various industry organizations. He has served as the Executive Director of ARIAS·U.S. since April 15, 2023, where he contributes to the advancement of the insurance and reinsurance sectors. His role as a mediator for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and the New York Supreme Court Commercial Division further shows his commitment to resolving disputes effectively and efficiently.
