About Larry

Larry Lofgren took a steady path into law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois in 1988, majoring in communications and minoring in political science and philosophy. He then attended Southern Illinois University School of Law, graduating with a J.D. in 1992. While in law school he interned with the State Appellate Defender, an experience that exposed him early to appellate procedure and the mechanics of written and oral advocacy.

Those academic years left a mark on how he practices. The communications major trained him to explain complex ideas plainly. Political science sharpened his sense of how law intersects with public institutions. Philosophy taught him to probe assumptions and to structure arguments carefully. The appellate internship reinforced attention to record, precedent, and persuasive legal writing. Together, these experiences shaped an approach that favors clarity and careful preparation.

After law school, Lofgren moved into legal practice. Over the years he has managed the practical demands of client work and courtroom procedure. He learned to translate appellate concepts into trial strategy when necessary. He also learned the day-to-day craft of preparing pleadings, arguing motions, and drafting briefs that judges can follow. He has practiced law through changing rules and shifting caseloads, adapting his methods as circumstances required.

Colleagues describe his style as methodical. He tends to break issues into understandable parts and to lay out options for clients in practical terms. He writes plainly and prefers an argument that proceeds step by step. In court he emphasizes preparation and the sequence of points that matter most to a judge. Outside the courtroom he has relied on the communication skills from his undergraduate training when negotiating and counseling clients.

Lofgren continues to practice law. He maintains a practice that draws on his background in appellate work, his training in communications, and his years handling litigation tasks. He currently concentrates on matters that call for careful legal writing, thoughtful analysis, and clear explanation to clients and decision-makers.
