About Laney
Laney Rooks trained first as a student of business and economics, then turned to the law. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma State University–Stillwater in 2012, having studied economics, international business and management. She later attended the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco, completing legal coursework and receiving her J.D. in 2018.
Her early professional steps came after law school in California. Rooks built a practice grounded in the state’s statutory and regulatory framework. Colleagues describe her approach as practical. She combines her business background with legal training to assess problems from multiple angles. That perspective informs how she evaluates risk and frames advice.
Rooks’s academic background gives her a firm grasp of commercial concepts. During college she focused on the economic and managerial forces that shape business decisions. At law school she studied the legal structures those decisions operate within. The two tracks meet in her day-to-day work: she often addresses questions where business and law intersect. Her peers say she pays attention to detail and to the broader implications of a client’s choices.
Over time Rooks has taken on a range of matters that arise routinely for individuals and businesses working in California. She has represented clients before state agencies and in private negotiations. She also prepares documents and counsels parties on compliance and transactional issues. Her style is deliberate. She tends to break complex matters into discrete steps and to set clear priorities.
Outside the courtroom and office, she keeps an eye on developments in both business and law. That helps when statutes change or courts issue new guidance. She reads decisions and regulatory updates and assesses how they affect her clients’ strategies. She also draws on her undergraduate training when clients face cross-border or commercial questions.
Rooks is based at Rooks Law, APC. She is licensed to practice in California and spends her days advising clients there. Her current practice centers on representing clients in matters arising under California law.
