About Lance Lawrence

Lance Lawrence Kennedy has built a career that moves between public service and private practice. He took a conventional route through higher education, then through courtrooms at multiple levels, and now runs a small firm that reflects that varied experience.

Kennedy began his academic path at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a B.A. in 2009. He then went on to SMU Dedman School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 2013. After law school he continued his studies at Harvard University, completing an M.A. in 2015.

His early career mixed civilian and military legal work. In 2015 he joined the United States Army Reserve as a Judge Advocate, a role that placed him in the military justice system and involved advising commanders and representing service members. That same year he served as a prosecutor for the State of Texas, gaining trial experience in state courts.

Kennedy shifted to the federal side in 2019 when he became a prosecutor with the United States Department of Justice. In that capacity he handled federal matters and worked alongside federal law enforcement. The move added a layer of experience in federal procedure and interagency coordination to his résumé.

He maintains memberships that reflect his interests in constitutional and criminal law. Kennedy is a current member of the Federalist Society, a group that convenes lawyers and scholars on legal and policy questions. He also belongs to the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, an organization that connects practitioners who handle criminal cases across the state.

The jurisdictions in which Kennedy is admitted include Texas and Utah, and he is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and the Fifth Circuit. Those admissions allow him to appear in both trial and appellate forums. His combined experience as a state prosecutor, a federal prosecutor, and a military judge advocate informs how he approaches litigation and appellate matters.

Today he operates under the name Lance Kennedy Law. His practice work involves matters in the jurisdictions where he is admitted and reflects his background in both prosecution and post-conviction and appellate work. He concentrates his current practice on cases in state and federal courts and on appellate proceedings where admission permits representation.
