About L. Barry
L. Barry Gubin built a legal career that blends courtroom work with solo practice. He has spent decades practicing law in Missouri and before the federal court that serves the eastern portion of the state. He runs his own office and handles matters that bring him into both state and federal forums.
Gubin completed his undergraduate studies in history at the University of Missouri–Columbia, earning a B.A. in 1974. He then pursued a master's degree in hospital administration at Saint Louis University, finishing that program in 1976. He returned to school for law and received his J.D. from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1980.
After law school, Gubin entered the legal profession in Missouri. In 1988 he established the Law Office of L. Barry Gubin as a solo practitioner. Over the years his practice has operated out of that office, where he handles a range of matters that require appearances in state courts and in the federal district that covers eastern Missouri.
Gubin is a member of the Missouri Bar and holds the ability to appear before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. He also belongs to the Federal Bar for the Eastern District of Missouri. Those memberships reflect the mix of state and federal work that has characterized his practice.
Colleagues describe his approach as straightforward and practical. He favors clear communication and tries to make legal issues understandable to clients who may be facing stressful situations. His background in hospital administration gives him a perspective on regulatory and institutional matters that sometimes arise in his work.
For more than three decades he has maintained a solo practice rather than joining a larger firm. That choice has allowed him to shape the office around the kinds of cases he accepts and the way he delivers legal services. He continues to appear in court and to advise clients from his office in Missouri.
At present, Gubin practices from the Law Office of L. Barry Gubin and handles matters in both Missouri state courts and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. His current practice focuses on representing clients in state and federal courts from his solo office in Missouri.
