About Kurt
Kurt Kusiak began his legal journey at Boston University School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1988. That academic foundation led to a career centered on federal appellate work. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and before several federal appellate courts, including the 11th, 4th and 1st Circuits, and he is also a member of the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Over the years Kusiak has built a practice that emphasizes appellate advocacy. He has handled briefing and oral argument in a variety of federal appellate settings. Admission to multiple circuit courts and the Supreme Court has allowed him to represent clients on matters that require appellate briefing, preservation of issues at the trial level, and preparation for argument before appellate panels.
His work typically involves translating trial records into appellate issues, shaping legal questions for judges, and advising trial counsel on steps needed to protect an appeal. That process calls for close attention to procedural detail and to precedent. He spends as much time on the record and the record on appeal as on the law itself, aiming to ensure arguments are presented clearly and efficiently for busy appellate judges.
Kusiak practices at Fitch Law Partners LLP. There, he collaborates with trial lawyers to refine issues likely to survive appeal. He also prepares appellate briefs, petitions, and motions and presents oral argument when cases move to argument calendars. His courtroom appearances span district and appellate venues, reflecting a practice that bridges trial and appellate work rather than standing solely at one end of the litigation spectrum.
Today he continues to represent clients in federal appellate courts and before the U.S. Supreme Court while practicing at Fitch Law Partners LLP. His current practice focuses on appellate litigation and advising trial teams on preserving and developing issues for appeal.
