About Kristina M.
Kristina M. Bergsten graduated from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 2012 after completing her undergraduate degree at Ohio State in 2008. She moved from an Ohio law school environment into a series of early roles that exposed her to both criminal defense and judicial work. Those formative years shaped the kind of practice she pursued later.
Her legal career began with public service. In 2010 she worked as a law clerk at the Franklin County Public Defender's Office. The following year she served as a law clerk to the Supreme Court of Ohio. Those positions gave her courtroom perspective and a front-row view of appellate procedure. After earning her J.D., she joined Berman and Asbel, LLC in 2012 as a lawyer and handled matters typical of a small firm practice.
By 2017 she was listed as a lawyer at The Animal Law Office. That move aligned her practice more closely with animal-related legal questions and advocacy. She is licensed to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Colorado, and her professional life has increasingly been centered in Colorado, where she participates in the local legal community.
She maintains memberships in several bar and professional associations in Colorado. Those include the Denver Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association, the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Association and the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. She also serves on the board of Colorado Voters for Animals and the Denver Indian Family Welfare Center. Volunteer roles include work at the MVL Denver Indian Center Clinic and Project Safeguard.
Colleagues describe Bergsten as methodical and attentive to both statutory detail and the human dimensions of disputes. Her background in public defense and clerking informs how she approaches case strategy and client communication. She has handled litigation matters and client counseling that intersect with animal welfare law, regulatory compliance and related civil issues.
Outside the office she combines legal work with community involvement, particularly projects tied to animal advocacy and services for Indigenous communities in Denver. She has built a professional network across multiple state bars while continuing to practice in Colorado.
Today she practices at The Animal Law Office. Her current practice concentrates on animal law and the legal issues that arise around animal welfare and related civil matters.
