About Kristin M.
Kristin M. Case built a legal career that moves between courtrooms and conference rooms. She writes and argues, but also manages the business side of practice. The combination has guided her path since law school.
Case earned her J.D. from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 1997 after completing a B.S. in journalism at Central Missouri State University in 1993. Her background in journalism shaped the way she approaches facts and argument. She often brings a reporter’s eye to legal briefs and client narratives.
Early in her career she served as a law clerk at the Missouri Court of Appeals. After that clerkship she joined Penny Nathan Kahan & Associates, where she rose from associate to partner. Her time at the firm exposed her to trial work and appellate practice. In 2006 she founded The Case Law Office, LLC, a step that allowed her to combine litigation, counseling and case management under a single roof.
Her admissions reflect a practice that crosses state and federal lines. She is admitted to the bars of Illinois and Missouri, to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. That mix has made appeals and federal litigation a recurring part of her work.
Professional associations have played a steady role in her practice. She has been active in the National Employment Lawyers Association and the Chicago Bar Association since 2001. In the Chicago Bar Association she has served as secretary. Those affiliations connect her to developments in employment law and to a network of plaintiff-side practitioners.
Through shifts in title and structure, Case has kept a consistent practice rhythm: gathering facts, testing claims in motion practice, and preparing cases for trial or appeal. She has handled matters that require both courtroom advocacy and written persuasion. Colleagues and opposing counsel have described her work as methodical and direct, and she tends to prefer clear briefs over rhetorical flourishes.
Today she is associated with Case + Sedey, LLC, and remains active in professional organizations. Her practice includes employment litigation and appellate work, and she represents clients in both state and federal forums.
