About Kristen
Kristen Spees built a career that moves between courtrooms and classrooms. She earned her J.D. from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2011, where she completed programs in Global Legal Studies and Mediation. Earlier, she took a liberal arts route at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science and Spanish in 2008. That mix of domestic degrees and international study informed the next steps of her work.
Her legal education included several study abroad terms. She spent time at Guanghua Law School at Zhejiang University studying the rule of law in China. She also attended the University of Technology Sydney and the Faculté de Droit de l’Université de Nice for comparative and international perspectives. A summer session at the William S. Richardson School of Law in Hawai‘i added coursework in environmental law, entertainment law and corporate governance. She holds a Certificate in Global Legal Studies and a Certificate in Mediation from Thomas Jefferson and a Certificate in Spanish from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Spees began in the profession as a legal assistant at Spees & Spees in 2008. After law school she launched Spees Law in 2013 and served as a clerk at the Incline Village Township Justice Court in 2014. Those early roles gave her exposure to courtroom procedure, client intake and the work of small-practice operations. She is admitted to practice in California, Nevada and Hawaii.
Her training crosses borders and disciplines. Mediation coursework and a formal mediation certificate inform how she approaches dispute resolution. Study of comparative law and international legal systems has shaped how she handles matters that touch on cross-jurisdictional questions. Language study in Spanish and French supports communication with clients from different backgrounds.
Spees holds memberships in local bar organizations, including the Incline Village Bar Association and the Maui County Bar Association. She has maintained connections to courts and colleagues across the three jurisdictions where she practices. Those contacts have been a steady part of the professional framework she relies on.
She operates Spees Law and maintains a mailing address at PO Box 3464. Her day-to-day work blends courtroom experience, mediation practice and international legal perspective. Her current practice centers on civil matters and dispute resolution, informed by her mediation training and comparative legal studies.
