About Kirby
Kirby Moss earned his Juris Doctor from Indiana University Law School in 1979. He completed his legal education at a time when the profession was beginning to change in response to new procedural rules and growing expectations for client service. That degree marked the start of a long career in the law.
After graduating, Moss entered the practice of law and built a career that has extended into the 2020s. Over the years he has worked through several phases of legal practice, adapting to shifts in courtroom procedure, the rise of electronic filing and research, and evolving client needs. He has practiced during an era that saw significant changes in how attorneys communicate with clients and manage cases. Those changes have shaped how he approaches the daily work of representing individuals and organizations.
Moss’s professional life has been defined by steady engagement with legal work rather than by public notoriety. He has met the routine demands of litigation, client counseling, document preparation and case management. He has handled the variety of tasks a practicing lawyer encounters: fact development, legal analysis, drafting pleadings and motions, and preparing for hearings and trials when necessary. His practice reflects sustained attention to the fundamentals of the profession, including procedural rigor and the responsibilities that come with advocacy.
Colleagues and people who have worked with him describe Moss as practical and methodical. He favors clear writing and careful preparation. He does not seek the spotlight. Instead, he focuses on the work at hand and on meeting client expectations through practical legal solutions. Over the decades he has seen repeated themes: the importance of deadlines, the value of reliable research, and the benefit of straightforward explanations for clients who must make difficult decisions.
Outside the office he has observed changes in legal education and practice. The lessons he took from Indiana University Law School in 1979 continue to inform his approach. He values the analytical skills gained in law school and applies them to the everyday problems that bring people to a lawyer’s door. In recent years he has continued to serve clients and to manage a caseload in a manner consistent with long experience in the profession. He currently maintains a general practice.
