About Kimberly

Kimberly Erwin built a path to law that began in the classroom and moved steadily into courtrooms and community programs. She earned a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University after completing a B.S. in forensic psychology at Florida Gulf Coast University and an A.A. in English literature at Florida State University College of Law. Her earliest formal diploma is from Bishop Verot High School, class of 1995.

Her legal career includes a series of public service and courtroom roles. As an intern at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 1999 and later at the 17th Judicial Circuit Staff Attorney’s Office in 2004, she gained early exposure to prosecution and court procedures. She served as an assistant public defender in the 20th Judicial Circuit beginning in 2006, then moved into roles in the state attorney’s office and local district attorney’s office, including work as an assistant state attorney in 2011 and as an assistant district attorney and court chief in Colorado County in 2012.

By 2014 she joined Thompson Family Law, P.A. as an associate, where she worked on family law matters and courtroom practice. In 2019 she took a post as a program attorney with the 20th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program, handling legal issues affecting children in dependency cases. That experience preceded the launch of her own practice. In 2020 she opened the Law Offices of Kimberly L. Erwin and began serving as a lawyer, certified family court mediator, and guardian ad litem.

Erwin is admitted to practice in Florida and Texas and holds certification from the Supreme Court of Florida as a family law mediator. Her work has spanned criminal defense, prosecution, family law, and child welfare. She has handled matters from initial intake and investigation to courtroom hearings, and she has served in roles that require both advocacy and impartial decision-making in sensitive family court settings.

Outside regular case work she participates in local and professional groups. She is active in the Hendry Glades Bar Association and the Verot Legal Society, and she is a member of the Association of Family Law Professionals and the Calusa Inns of Court. She is also listed with the Order of the Barristers. Those memberships reflect involvement in continuing legal education and community legal networks rather than ceremonial honors.

Her practice in 2026 remains centered in southwest Florida. She continues to serve as a mediator and guardian ad litem while representing clients in family court. Her current practice centers on family law mediation, guardianship matters, and representation in family court.
