About Kimberley
Kimberley Schaefer built a foundation in numbers before turning to the law. She earned a B.A. in Mathematics from Texas Tech University in 1993 and later completed a B.S. in Computer and Information Science at the University of Maryland University College in 2002. She then attended Georgetown University Law Center, receiving her J.D. in 2007.
After law school Schaefer joined Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP as an associate in 2007. The role exposed her to the rhythms of a large international firm and its emphasis on complex client matters. Within a few years she left the firm environment and, in 2010, began practicing under the Schaefer Law Office name. That move marked a shift from associate track to running an independent practice.
Her professional affiliations reflect a long-standing engagement with immigration law. Schaefer has held membership in the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2009. That association is a consistent element of her professional identity and signals an ongoing interest in immigration issues. Her earlier technical training in computer science and mathematics also informs how she approaches cases that involve procedural detail or technical records.
Schaefer is admitted to practice in Virginia and in the District of Columbia. She maintains practice operations under the Schaefer Law Office banner, handling matters that draw on both her legal training and her quantitative background. Colleagues describe her as methodical in preparing case files and attentive to procedural requirements. Clients encounter a practitioner who combines courtroom familiarity with office-based case management.
Over the course of her career she has moved from a large firm setting to the responsibilities of leading a small practice. That transition allowed her to shape the scope of her work and to manage client relationships directly. Her practice has remained steady since she established the Schaefer Law Office, and she continues to participate in professional circles related to immigration law. As of 2026 she practices immigration and related matters from Schaefer Law Office.
