About Kim
Kim Benjamin earned a Bachelor of Science in political science and interdisciplinary studies from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 1993. She went on to law school at The George Washington University, receiving her J.D. in 1996. In 2000 she studied trial skills at the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College and later joined its faculty.
Her legal career began in public defense. In 1996 she joined the Missouri State Public Defender System as a district defender and associate lawyer. That early courtroom work shaped her approach to criminal defense and trial preparation. In 2002 she opened her own firm and became the owner and managing attorney of Benjamin Law Office, LLC.
Over the years Benjamin has added a number of specialized certifications. She completed standardized field sobriety test training and certification through TBJ Inc and Gary Lowe & Associates. She is also certified in Drug Recognition Evaluations through TBJ Inc. Those technical credentials underpin her work on impaired-driving cases and on cross-examination of expert witnesses.
Benjamin’s involvement in professional organizations is extensive and includes both leadership and teaching roles. She has served on the board of the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and as its president. She is vice president of the Missouri Society for Justice/DWI Defense Institute and a member of the National College of DUI Defense faculty. Locally she holds membership in the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Cass County Bar Association—where she has chaired technology training—and the Association of Women Lawyers. From 2016 to 2020 she served as a hearing officer and member of the Missouri Ethics Commission.
Her ties to trial advocacy extend beyond Missouri. As a graduate and faculty member of the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College, Benjamin teaches trial skills to other lawyers. She also participates in the National College of DUI Defense’s faculty programs, where she delivers training on DWI defense topics and courtroom strategies.
Colleagues and clients see her courtroom work as methodical. She combines forensic training, hands-on trial practice, and ongoing teaching responsibilities. That mix shows up in how she handles evidence challenges and expert testimony.
Benjamin practices in Missouri and runs the Missouri DWI & Criminal Law Center at Benjamin Law Office, LLC. She currently concentrates her practice on DWI and criminal defense at that office.
