About Kevin R.
Kevin R. Collins trained on the East Coast and West before settling into practice in Massachusetts. He earned a B.A. from Boston College in 1996 and completed his J.D. at Santa Clara University School of Law in 2002. The arc of his career shows steady movement from public-sector prosecution to private practice. He brought courtroom experience and case-handling skills into his own office in 2016.
Collins began his post-law-school career serving in the San Mateo District Attorney’s Office, where he was a deputy district attorney starting in 2007. That period gave him regular exposure to jury trials, plea negotiations and the day-to-day work of a busy prosecutor. In 2014 he moved to Massachusetts and joined the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney. Those years in the district attorney’s offices on both coasts shaped his understanding of criminal procedure and trial practice.
In 2016 he opened The Law Office of Kevin R. Collins. As owner, he transitioned from government roles into representation of private clients. The office records list him as the principal attorney. He also holds memberships in local and state legal organizations, including the Middlesex Defense Lawyers beginning in 2016 and the Massachusetts Bar Association since 2014. Those memberships reflect ongoing engagement with the legal community in the region.
Colleagues describe Collins as pragmatic in court. He favors clear preparation over flashy theatrics. That approach is evident in the mix of trial work and negotiated resolutions that has marked his career. He has handled matters at various stages, from charging decisions and preliminary hearings to jury trials and sentencing. His background in prosecution gives him a view of case strategy from both sides of the aisle.
Outside the courtroom he has maintained ties to professional groups and regional bar activity. He has remained active in Middlesex County legal circles since relocating to Massachusetts. He balances casework with the administrative responsibilities of running a small firm.
Today he practices under The Law Office of Kevin R. Collins. His current practice centers on criminal defense representation in Massachusetts courts.
