About Kevin P
Kevin P Sutherland built his path to law across two states and two distinct bodies of study. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 2013. He then completed his Juris Doctor at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School in 2016, where his coursework included criminal law and business law.
Those years of study provided a foundation in courtroom procedure and transactional concepts. In law school he studied topics that bridge public safety and commercial regulation. The combination shaped the practical issues he would encounter after graduation: evidentiary disputes, courtroom advocacy, client counseling and contract questions.
Following law school, Sutherland began practicing in Michigan. He is admitted to the Michigan bar and is authorized to appear before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. His practice has centered on matters that draw on both his criminal justice training and his exposure to business-related legal problems.
His work crosses trial-level litigation and appellate filings. That mix means he prepares cases for initial hearings, handles pretrial motions and manages appeals when cases proceed beyond the trial court. His clients have included individuals and businesses seeking representation in state courts and, when appropriate, at the federal appellate level.
Sutherland keeps current with developments in criminal law and business law through continuing education and professional contacts. He holds membership in professional organizations and participates in events that address changes in statutory law and court decisions. Colleagues describe him as deliberate in courtroom settings and exacting in written submissions.
He practices in Michigan and appears before the Sixth Circuit as needed. He handles criminal defense and business-related legal matters, representing clients in state courts and on appeal in the federal Sixth Circuit.
