About Kevin P.
Kevin P. Holmes earned his law degree from the University of New Mexico, completing his J.D. program in 2010. His time in law school prepared him for early work in the state judiciary. After graduation he began a clerkship at the New Mexico Supreme Court, a position that put him close to appellate reasoning and the mechanics of state law.
The clerkship gave him an inside view of judicial decision-making. He moved into public service and took on prosecutorial roles. In 2012 he served as a state prosecutor. He returned to the prosecutor's office again in 2016, handling criminal matters on behalf of the state. Between those stints in public prosecution he joined private practice as a plaintiff's lawyer at McGinn, Carpenter, Montoya & Love, P.A. in 2014. That role exposed him to civil litigation from the plaintiff's perspective and broadened his courtroom experience.
Holmes's career path crosses the lines between public and private litigation. Early appellate exposure, work as a state prosecutor, and time representing plaintiffs have given him experience on multiple sides of disputes. He has handled cases that required both trial preparation and courtroom advocacy. He also maintains memberships in professional associations, remaining engaged with the legal community.
Those varied roles inform the way he approaches work now. Colleagues and clients see an attorney who understands the procedures of criminal prosecution and the strategies common in plaintiff-side civil suits. He draws on courtroom experience when advising clients and when preparing matters for trial. His background in the state Supreme Court clerkship continues to shape how he analyzes statutes and judicial opinions.
Today he practices at Holmes Law Office. He represents clients in criminal and civil matters and handles litigation that ranges from initial charging decisions through trial and appeal. His current practice emphasizes courtroom advocacy and case preparation on both criminal defense and civil litigation issues.
