About Kevin Mark
Kevin Mark Jones built a technical foundation long before he earned a law degree. He holds two bachelor’s degrees from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge: a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (1992) and a B.S. in Computer Engineering and Business Management (1997). He later attended South Texas College of Law and received his J.D. in 2009, where he studied common law and intellectual property topics.
Jones moved between industry and practice early in his career. In 2005 he worked at Hewlett-Packard in the Industry Standard Server Division as an intellectual property, entity lawyer and agent. That experience placed him at the intersection of product development and patent strategy. He launched his own practice in 2008 as the principal lawyer of Law Offices of Kevin M. Jones & Associates, LLC. In 2014 he returned to South Texas College of Law as a supervising lawyer for the school’s patent clinics, a role he held through 2017.
His credentials include registration as a patent lawyer with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is admitted to practice in Louisiana and Texas, and maintains his USPTO registration. Professional associations underline the technical and professional breadth of his background. He has been active in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Houston area chapter since 1990. He joined the American Intellectual Property Law Association in 2008. Since 2013 he has been involved with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ Petroleum Division and the Houston chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. He also served as treasurer of the Houston Northwest Bar Association from 2010 to 2014.
Jones’s volunteer work includes time as an intake lawyer and pro bono case worker with the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Association and the Houston Volunteer Lawyer Program. He was involved with the Houston Intellectual Property Lawyers Association in the mid-2000s and supported clinic programs at South Texas College of Law during the 2014–2017 period.
Technically trained and legally credentialed, Jones combines engineering and legal perspectives in patent matters. His background in electrical and computer engineering, plus experience at a major technology company, informs how he evaluates inventions and drafts patent applications. He currently practices patent and intellectual property law through his firm, handling prosecution and client counseling matters in those areas.
