About Kevin
Kevin Holmes built a legal career that began in the mid-1970s and continues into the 2020s. He earned a B.A. from American University and later a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law–Newark. Those credentials set the stage for a long tenure in South Carolina practice.
He started as a lawyer at Lourie Law Office in 1975. Four years later he joined The Steinberg Law Office as a partner in 1979. Decades at the firm followed. In 2021 his title changed to of counsel, a role that kept him connected to the firm while allowing a modified practice schedule.
Holmes has been active in professional organizations for much of his career. He joined the Board of Governors of the South Carolina Lawyers Association in 1975 and has remained on that board. Since 2014 he has served on the Executive Committee of the Charleston County Bar Association. He also served on boards outside the courthouse. He was on the South Carolina Association for Justice Board of Governors from 2000 to 2008, sat on the Lowcountry Food Bank Board of Governors from 2007 to 2013, and was a member of the Rural Missions, Inc. board from 2000 to 2006. Those roles reflect a long pattern of civic and bar involvement.
Colleagues describe Holmes as steady and practical. He has handled matters in court and counseled clients at different stages of disputes. His work over the years has included trial preparation, negotiation and client advisement. He approaches each file by breaking issues down into clear steps and by keeping clients informed. That straightforward method has defined his courtroom and office presence.
Holmes maintains a presence across multiple Steinberg Law Office locations, including the firm’s main office and its Goose Creek and Summerville offices. He has balanced firm responsibilities with board service and local bar leadership. Now in his later career, he has adjusted his workload while staying engaged in select matters and mentoring younger lawyers. He currently practices at The Steinberg Law Office, handling civil litigation and client counseling.
