About Kevin

Kevin Dreher builds cases through careful preparation and steady legal argument. He combines years of courtroom and appellate experience with detailed knowledge of insurance policy language. That approach informs how he leads clients through coverage disputes.

Dreher earned his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 2002. Before law school he completed an M.A. at Loyola University Chicago in 1996 and a B.A. at the University of Michigan in 1993. The sequence reflects a steady movement toward litigation and advocacy, starting from a broad liberal arts education and progressing to professional legal training.

He serves as a partner and co-chair of the Insurance Recovery Group at Barnes & Thornburg LLP. In that role he oversees litigation strategy and contributes to appellate work. His practice includes preparing pleadings, taking and defending depositions, arguing motions and managing complex discovery. He also participates in briefing for higher courts and in federal trial work when cases go to that level.

Dreher is admitted in several state and federal jurisdictions. They include New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Michigan, and the U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey, the Eastern District of Michigan, the Northern District of Illinois and the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Those admissions allow him to pursue coverage and defense matters across multiple forums and levels of review.

Colleagues describe him as deliberate in his legal analysis and steady during litigation. He has handled matters that require coordinating among insured clients, insurers and co-defendants. His work often involves dissecting policy language, pursuing coverage where available and defending against coverage denials when appropriate. He also advises clients about coverage position and litigation risk in the face of overlapping policies.

Outside specific case work he takes part in internal firm leadership related to insurance litigation practice, helping shape approaches to multi-jurisdictional matters and federal court strategy. He draws on both trial and appellate experience when preparing cases that may move between courts. He practices at Barnes & Thornburg LLP and concentrates on insurance recovery and coverage litigation.
