About Kevin C
Kevin C Boileau combines academic inquiry and practical dispute work in a career that crosses law, psychoanalysis and negotiation. He earned a J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (1985) and an LL.M. in U.S. Tax Law & Policy from the University of San Diego School of Law (1987). He later completed doctoral-level work in philosophy, psychoanalysis and phenomenology at the University of New Mexico (Ph.D., 1999) and at the Existential Psychoanalytic Institute (Ph.D.-equivalent, 2009). He also attended advanced mediation and negotiation studies at Harvard University in 2010.
Boileau moved into practice and teaching in parallel. He began practicing law in the mid-1980s and has served as a lawyer handling divorce, animal, business and water/land matters. He founded Boileau Conflict Solutions and remains its managing partner and senior mediator. Over the years his titles have included Chief Scientist at the BCS Dispute Resolution Science Institute and Dean of Faculty and Professor at the Existential Psychoanalytic Institute & Society. In 2012 he joined the Global Center for Advanced Studies as a professor of psychoanalysis, phenomenology and critical theory.
His credentials reflect that dual path. He holds senior training and supervisory credentials from the Existential Psychoanalytic Institute Education and a range of advanced certifications from BCS Mediation & Negotiation and the BCS Game Theory/Conflict Management Institute. Those include senior-level mediator and negotiator status, advanced mediation firm management, senior business negotiation strategist, advanced negotiation strategies and tactics, and study in the psychology of conflict in negotiation.
Practice and teaching inform one another in his work. In academic settings he has taught and overseen faculty on topics that sit at the intersection of psychoanalytic theory, phenomenology and critical theory. In practice he applies theory to negotiation and mediation settings, drawing on game-theory informed tactics and psychological approaches to conflict. He holds membership in several professional bodies and has served in faculty and dean roles for organizations focused on psychoanalysis and mediation since the early 2000s.
Boileau maintains offices under the Boileau Conflict Solutions name, including affiliations with Santa Clara Divorce Mediation and Divorce Options San Diego, where he continues to mediate and manage complex dispute resolution matters. He is licensed to practice in California and Colorado and continues to handle mediation, negotiation and selected legal matters, combining dispute resolution tools and psychoanalytic perspectives in his current practice focus.
