About Kenneth L. Sheppard

Kenneth L. Sheppard Jr. built a legal education that combined general law and specialized tax study. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and History from Ohio Northern University in 1992, followed by a J.D. from the same school in 1996. He returned to formal study a few years later and completed an LL.M. in Taxation at the University of Denver in 1999.

Sheppard moved into practice in Ohio. He is licensed to practice in that state and has been involved in a mix of local and statewide professional organizations. He joined the Ohio State Bar Association in 2005 and has been a member since. He added memberships in the Credit Education Coalition in 2010, and in both the Licking County and Knox County bar associations beginning in 2018.

In 2005 he became president and owner of Sheppard Law Offices, Co., L.P.A. That role has defined the firm’s direction over the past two decades. The office manages matters that touch on both personal and business financial distress as well as tax disputes. Sheppard’s training in tax law informs how the firm handles cases that involve the intersection of bankruptcy and federal and state tax obligations.

Sheppard practices from a string of offices across central and northeastern Ohio. His locations include downtown Columbus, Akron, Canton, Hilliard, Newark and Mt. Vernon. The geographic spread allows the firm to handle filings and client meetings across several counties while remaining rooted in the state courthouse system.

Clients who come to Sheppard Law Offices tend to bring questions about debt relief, chapter filings and tax-related liabilities. The firm handles consumer and business bankruptcy matters and addresses tax issues that can arise before or after a bankruptcy filing. Sheppard’s LL.M. in Taxation provides a framework for advising on the tax consequences of various bankruptcy outcomes and for negotiating with taxing authorities when needed.

Those looking for representation will find an attorney whose career path follows a clear line from undergraduate study through advanced tax training to long-term practice in Ohio courts. His professional memberships reflect steady involvement in both county and state legal communities. He currently concentrates his practice on bankruptcy and tax law.
