About Kelly Douglas
Kelly Douglas Talcott trained first as a scientist and then as a lawyer. He earned a B.S. from Marquette University in 1982 and took his law degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1988. He has been a member of the New York State Bar since 1989 and is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Talcott began his private practice career in the 1990s. He joined Pennie & Edmonds LLP in 1994, serving first as an associate and later as a partner. That period established his footing in firm practice and client counseling. He moved on to a partnership at K&L Gates in 2004, and later served as a partner at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP beginning in 2008. Each move placed him in environments that handled complex commercial and intellectual property matters.
In 2010 he founded his own firm, The Law Offices of Kelly D. Talcott, where he continues to serve as principal. The office reflects a shift from large-firm practice to a smaller, individualized setting. Clients working with him now often see a direct line from senior counsel to case handling and strategy. His career path shows sustained engagement with private practice across more than three decades.
Talcott’s admissions to the New York Bar and the USPTO shape the kinds of matters he handles. Admittance to the patent office permits him to appear in proceedings and to handle prosecution work. His background combines courtroom-facing experience at major firms with counseling and filing work that typically accompanies patent and trademark practice. He has worked on matters that require coordination between patent filings and commercial objectives, and on procedural matters before administrative bodies.
Colleagues describe him as practical in approach and attentive to procedural detail. He has navigated the responsibilities of partnership at several national firms and then assumed the responsibilities of running a solo practice. That trajectory offered him managerial experience as well as sustained client contact. He continues to engage in bar activities and maintains an active membership in the New York State Bar.
He keeps his practice concentrated on matters that arise at the intersection of intellectual property and commercial law, and on proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
