About Keith J.
Keith J. Berets built a career that began in the liberal arts and moved steadily into the law. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Pomona College in 1990. Several years later he earned a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1997. Those academic choices shaped the way he approaches client problems: attentive to people and grounded in legal training.
After law school Berets entered private practice and advanced into firm leadership. He is admitted to practice in Colorado and has spent much of his career working inside law firms rather than in public service or government roles. Over time he took on greater responsibility for case management, client relations and the mentoring of junior attorneys.
A significant chapter of his professional life took place at Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, where he served as a partner. In that capacity Berets handled the administrative duties that come with partnership while also carrying a client work load. His role involved coordinating teams inside the firm and interfacing with outside counsel and clients. The partner position placed him at the center of decisions about strategy, staffing and the practical delivery of legal services.
Colleges do not always predict law careers, but Berets’s background in psychology informed how he approaches negotiation and client counseling. He tends to frame legal problems in human terms. That perspective has informed the way he trains associates and the way he explains legal options to clients. His peers have noted an approachable style in conferences and meetings, where clarity of explanation matters as much as the legal analysis itself.
Today Berets continues to practice in Colorado. His work remains tied to the responsibilities he has carried for years: advising clients, supervising teams and resolving complex matters through a combination of legal analysis and practical judgment. He maintains an active role at the firm level while focusing his practice on serving clients in the state.
