About Keith
Keith Higgins began his academic path in Georgia politics and law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Kennesaw State University in 1978. He stayed in the state for legal training, receiving his J.D. from Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law in 1983.
After law school Higgins entered public service. By 1988 he was serving as an assistant district lawyer in the District Lawyer’s Office for the Brunswick Judicial Circuit. In that role he worked on criminal matters at the trial level. The experience gave him familiarity with courtroom procedure, local prosecutors, and the cadence of criminal dockets across the circuit.
Higgins moved into private practice later in his career. In 2010 he opened Keith Higgins, P.C., and has practiced from that office since. That same year he joined the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and has maintained membership. His work has been concentrated in the state of Georgia, where he holds admission to practice.
Across decades in courtrooms and offices, Higgins’s practice has centered on criminal law. He has represented clients in a range of matters from misdemeanor charges to more serious felony cases. His background as an assistant district lawyer informs his approach to defense work; he brings a prosecutorial perspective to preparation and trial tactics. He has handled arraignments, hearings, plea negotiations, and jury trials at the state level.
Colleagues describe Higgins as steady and practical when preparing cases. He spends time drafting motions, reviewing police reports, and preparing witnesses. He also interacts with clients about procedure and possible outcomes in clear terms. His years in both public office and private practice have given him a long view of how criminal cases progress through Georgia’s courts.
Today Higgins continues to practice from Keith Higgins, P.C. He represents individuals facing criminal charges across Georgia and appears in state trial courts for matters arising in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit and elsewhere in the state. His current practice focuses on criminal defense in Georgia.
