About Keith Douglas

Keith Douglas Munson built a legal career that moves between courtroom experience, law firm practice and public service. He studied at Clemson University, earning a B.A. in 1980. He then attended the University of Virginia School of Law and received his J.D. in 1984.

Early in his career, Munson served as a prosecutor in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. In 1988 he was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division (Mech), where he handled military prosecutions and the legal issues that accompany service in an active division. That stint in uniform gave him courtroom time and exposure to the procedural demands of military justice.

After military service, Munson moved into private practice. He became a partner at Womble Carlyle, LLP, where he worked on matters typical of a large firm practice. He has also maintained licenses to practice in Pennsylvania, Florida and South Carolina, allowing him to take on cross-jurisdictional matters and to advise clients with multi-state interests.

Munson’s public roles have been steady alongside his private practice. Since 2014 he has served as a commissioner and the board secretary of the South Carolina Lottery Commission. He holds a current seat on the Governor’s Transition Team and serves as secretary of the South Carolina Research Universities Endowed Chair Review Board. He is also a board member of the Upstate South Carolina Economic Development Alliance. Those positions place him at the intersection of state government, economic development and higher education oversight.

Colleagues describe Munson as someone comfortable in environments where law and public policy converge. His resume spans prosecution, firm partnership and public appointments. That range has required him to work on regulatory matters, administrative processes and transactional questions that touch state agencies and regional economic initiatives.

Across roles, Munson has combined litigation experience from his time as a prosecutor with the transactional and advisory work common to firm partners. He has spent years interacting with state boards and commissions and advising organizations that must navigate state regulations.

He continues to balance private practice and public service. His work concentrates on legal issues arising at the nexus of government, regulatory oversight and regional economic development, and he remains active in state-appointed boards and commissions in South Carolina.
