About Kathy

Kathy Lucas built her path to law on a background in psychology and criminal justice. She earned a B.A. from Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in 2000, majoring in both fields. She went on to law school at Campbell, where she completed her J.D. in 2004.

After law school, Lucas established her practice in North Carolina. She is licensed to practice in the state and has spent her career working with clients on family law matters. Early work involved a mix of courtroom appearances and negotiated settlements. Over time she moved between contested hearings and alternative dispute resolution, handling the day-to-day tasks that shape family law cases.

Her approach is practical and case-driven. She breaks complex issues into manageable parts. That makes it easier for clients to understand the choices before them. On contested matters she prepares for hearings methodically. In negotiated matters she focuses on durable outcomes rather than quick fixes.

Lucas maintains current memberships in professional associations that support her practice. She keeps current on changing law and procedure through continuing legal education and through interaction with peers. That engagement helps her anticipate procedural challenges and identify tools that may benefit individual clients.

At Fresh Start Family Law she represents people in divorce, custody, and support matters. The firm handles temporary relief hearings, settlement negotiations, and final decrees. Lucas also works on parenting plans and enforcement matters when agreements break down. She guides clients through discovery and case management, and she prepares pleadings and court submissions that squarely address the disputed issues.

Colleagues describe her as steady in the courtroom and attentive at the negotiating table. She tends to prioritize clear communication and careful preparation. That shows in how cases are documented and in how hearings are presented. Clients often face emotionally charged decisions. Her role is to translate those decisions into a legal strategy.

Outside of specific case work, Lucas pays attention to procedural detail. She is comfortable managing deadlines, drafting orders, and coordinating with other professionals such as child specialists or financial advisors when cases require it. Today she practices at Fresh Start Family Law where she focuses her work on family law matters.
