Kathryn Elizabeth Clunen is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 2004. Her license is currently in active status. Ms. Clunen is a partner at Clunen and Oakman Law LLP, a law firm located in Thousand Oaks, California. She has been practicing law for over 21 years, serving clients throughout Ventura and Los Angeles counties in Southern California.
Ms. Clunen earned her Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law, where she graduated in 2004. Prior to law school, she completed her undergraduate education at California Polytechnic State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. During her time at Southwestern University School of Law, she served as a notes and comments editor for the Journal of Law & Trade in the Americas and as Justice for the Sammis Chapter of Phi Alpha Delta. After graduation, Ms. Clunen continued her education by receiving mediation training from the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University and fee arbitration training from the State Bar of California.
Ms. Clunen concentrates her practice in the areas of family law and mediation. She represents individuals in matters involving paternity actions, child support, child custody and visitation, spousal support, property division, and post-judgment issues. Her practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including initial case evaluation, discovery, mediation, settlement negotiations, and trial proceedings in both state and federal courts. She also has training in collaborative divorce, providing clients with alternative dispute resolution options.
Throughout her career, Ms. Clunen has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Ventura and the Superior Court of California for the County of Los Angeles. She has also appeared before the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Prior to founding Clunen and Oakman Law LLP, she worked as "of counsel" with Dion Law Group for eight years. In 2020, she served as the president of the Ventura County Bar Association and remains active within the Association.
Ms. Clunen is an active member of the Ventura County Bar Association and the California State Bar Association. She has served on numerous boards and legal organizations, including as president of the Ventura County Bar Association, president of the Jerome H. Berenson American Inn of Court, and as a board member of Ventura County Legal Aid. She has also been a member of The Coalition for Collaborative Divorce and served as chairwoman of the California State Bar’s Young Lawyer Association. Ms. Clunen is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing her to serve the diverse communities of Ventura and Los Angeles counties effectively.
