About Kathleen
Kathleen Milam made an unconventional turn into law after beginning her academic life in engineering. She studied aerospace systems at Auburn University and graduated with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering in 2003. Four years later she earned her J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2007.
Her early career included a judicial law clerk position in 2010 with the State of Alabama’s 23rd Judicial Circuit. The clerkship placed her inside the state court system and offered a close view of judicial decision-making and courtroom procedure. That year on a résumé, she moved from a classroom and lab mindset to the rhythms of state court calendars and filings.
Milam’s bar and association memberships trace the arc of that transition. She has been a member of the Alabama Bar Association since 2010 and joined the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association the same year. She added membership in the American Bar Association in 2011 and remains an active participant in those organizations’ professional networks.
She also carries a professional certification that shapes part of her practice. The Alabama State Bar has certified her as a guardian ad litem. That credential authorizes court appointments to represent the interests of children or other individuals in contested proceedings. It is a specialized role that requires both procedural knowledge and the ability to present an impartial appraisal to a judge.
Milam sits at the intersection of technical training and legal practice. Her undergraduate background in aerospace engineering gives her a methodical approach to problem solving. Her legal training and courtroom experience have translated that approach into case analysis and client representation in Alabama’s courts.
Colleagues describe a steady, workmanlike approach to assignments and court appearances. She has maintained continuous memberships in local and national bar organizations since the early 2010s. Those connections keep her current on procedural developments and professional standards.
She practices law in Alabama and accepts court appointments as a certified guardian ad litem. Her current practice includes guardianship matters and representation in Alabama courts.
