About Katherine C.
Katherine C. Yarger’s legal path began in the Ivy League classroom and moved quickly into the courthouse. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in American Government from Dartmouth College in 2004, then went on to earn her J.D. from Duke University School of Law in 2008. Those years set the stage for a string of appellate clerkships that would shape her early career.
Fresh out of law school, Yarger spent a year clerking for Justice Allison Eid on the Colorado Supreme Court. She followed that with a clerkship for Judge Neil Gorsuch on the Tenth Circuit in 2009. Those experiences immersed her in state and federal appellate work at an early stage. After a spell in private practice, she returned to the bench in 2013 as a law clerk to Associate Justice Clarence Thomas at the United States Supreme Court.
Her time in private practice began in 2010 at Wheeler Trigg O'Donnell LLP, where she worked on civil litigation matters in federal and state trial courts. In 2014 she moved to Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, joining a larger firm platform that handled complex appellate and federal litigation. Those roles gave her sustained courtroom and briefing experience across jurisdictions.
In 2021 Yarger became a partner at Lehotsky Keller LLP. The promotion was the latest step in a career that alternates between high-level appellate work and hands-on litigation. Colleagues describe her as methodical and precise in legal writing, traits that trace back to her clerkships and years handling appeals.
Yarger is admitted to practice before the State of Colorado, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Ninth and Tenth Circuits, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. She has been a member of the Colorado State Bar since 2008. Those admissions reflect the mix of state and federal matters that have marked her work.
Her record shows sustained involvement in appellate litigation and federal court practice. She brings clerking experience at the state supreme court, a federal circuit court, and the U.S. Supreme Court to matters that require detailed briefing and argument. That background informs how she approaches case strategy and appellate procedure.
Today she serves as a partner at Lehotsky Keller LLP. She practices primarily in appellate litigation and federal court matters, drawing on her clerkships and years in private practice to advise clients and handle appeals.
