About Kate
Kate Kelso trained as a communicator before she trained as a lawyer. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and romance languages from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007 and completed her J.D. at Georgetown University Law Center in 2012. Those years on two campuses shaped a practice that crosses national borders and industry lines.
Her early legal work included international and government placements. While at Georgetown she served as a legal extern in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Division in the commercial litigation unit and worked as a legal associate to in-house counsel for GE Oil & Gas. In 2010 she took a post as First International Legal Assistant at the War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office of Serbia. Those assignments put her inside governmental and multinational legal environments early in her career.
After law school she entered private practice and corporate legal roles. In 2012 she was an associate legal counsel at Gunster, a firm known for handling complex business matters. She later moved between legal and commercial roles in the private sector. Records show positions in business development, sales and marketing at firms including PAZ Capital and HedgeSpeed Technology in 2007, GEM in Newport Beach in 2013, and a communications management role at The Guziak Group in 2014. In 2015 she worked as a legal consultant for Hill Realty Group, LLC and served as chief legal counsel at K. Kelso Law, RLLP.
Her résumé reflects several overlapping strands: commercial litigation experience from her DOJ externship, in-house corporate work from GE Oil & Gas and subsequent counsel roles, and involvement in real estate and business development through consulting and private-sector positions. She has moved between lawyer and business roles often enough to speak both languages. That background informs how she approaches client matters — attentive to commercial incentives as well as legal outcomes.
Today she practices under the K. Kelso Law name. The firm listing and her title indicate she handles counsel-level work for companies and private clients, drawing on experience in litigation, corporate transactions and real estate-related matters. She maintains an active practice at K. Kelso Law and handles matters that combine corporate, commercial and real estate issues.
