About Kate

Kate Evans began her academic journey in international development before turning to the law. She earned a B.A. in International Development Studies from Brown University in 1999 and completed her J.D. at New York University School of Law in 2009. Those years of study set the stage for a string of appellate clerkships that shaped her early professional life.

Fresh out of law school, Evans served as a law clerk to Judge Harriet Lansing at the Minnesota Court of Appeals in 2009. The following year she clerked for Judge Thomas Kalitowski at the same court. In 2011 she moved to the federal appellate bench, clerking for Judge Diana Murphy of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Those positions involved appellate research, briefing, and a close view of how state and federal appellate courts approach complex procedural and substantive questions.

In 2012 Evans entered private practice as a partner at CASPER & EVANS, P.A. Her move to the firm followed consecutive clerkships and a period of concentrated appellate work. At the firm she took on matters that drew on her appellate background and federal court experience. She has been part of a small firm environment where managing appellate dockets and coordinating filings across multiple jurisdictions is routine.

Evans holds admissions in several federal and state forums. She is a member of the Idaho State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, the Ninth Circuit, the Second Circuit, the Eighth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. That mix of admissions reflects a practice that spans state and federal appellate work as well as litigation that may begin in trial courts and proceed through the appeals process.

Those who have worked with Evans note an emphasis on careful legal research and precise drafting. Her clerkships gave her a grounding in appellate procedure and opinion analysis. At the firm she applies those skills to case strategy, motions, and briefs, crafting arguments aimed at the particular standards appellate courts apply.

Today Evans continues as a partner at CASPER & EVANS, P.A., where she handles matters that require appellate advocacy and federal court practice. She focuses her current practice on appellate and federal litigation.
