About Karin Sloan
Karin Sloan DeLaney earned a B.A. in Political Science, English and German from the State University of New York at Albany in 1992. She went on to receive her J.D. from Western New England University School of Law in 1995 and completed an LL.M. in Taxation at Syracuse University College of Law in 1996. That sequence of study paired traditional legal training with advanced tax education.
She began her legal career as an associate at Spielman & Kassimir PC in 1996. A year later she became a partner at DeLaney & O Connor LLP, where she took on a broader roster of estate and fiduciary matters. In 2009 she served as a contract partner at Hancock Estabrook LLP, working alongside established trusts and estates teams. Throughout these roles she has practiced in New York and maintained active involvement in local and state bar organizations.
Her practice centers on trusts and estates work. She handles estate planning, probate and administration matters, and related tax questions that arise for families and fiduciaries. Her LL.M. in Taxation informs how she approaches more complex estate tax concerns and gift planning. The combination of courtroom and transactional experience has given her a practical sense of how estates are managed from start to finish.
Beyond the office she has stayed connected to community organizations that touch on eldercare and health services. She has been on the board of Home Aides of Central New York Inc. since 2011 and joined the board of VNA Homecare in 2013. Since 2014 she has served on the advisory board of the Maureens Hope Foundation. Those roles keep her involved with the local systems that support older adults and families during transitions.
She has been active in professional groups for decades. She joined the New York State Bar Association and the Onondaga County Bar Association in 1995, and she has been a member of the Estate Planning Council of Central New York since 1997. Since 1998 she has been involved with the Central New York Womens Bar Association and has served in leadership roles including president and secretary.
Clients and colleagues describe her work as steady and detail-oriented. She balances technical tax training with the everyday realities of advising executors and trustees. She currently practices in trusts and estates.
