About Karen
Karen Ulmer built a legal life out of careful study and steady practice. She earned a B.S. in psychology from Duke University, a J.D. from Widener University Delaware School of Law and later completed an LL.M. in securities regulation at Georgetown University. Those credentials gave her a mix of analytical training and doctrinal depth.
She began her career in private practice in the late 1990s. One of her early roles was as an associate at the Jennifer Courtney firm in 1997. A few years after that she helped establish a small partnership, Curtis & Ulmer PC, where she served as a founder and partner beginning in 2000. In 2001 she opened her own practice, Karen Ann Ulmer PC, concentrating on family law matters and related services.
Over time Ulmer added training that broadened how she serves clients. She completed a 40-hour family mediation training at the Good Shepherd Mediation Center. That certification complements courtroom work and offers parties an alternative route to resolving disputes.
She is admitted to practice in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Locally she maintains ties to county-level bar organizations. Her memberships include the Montgomery County Bar Association and the Bucks County Bar Association, where she has been listed as a member since 1997. She also holds membership in the American Bar Association.
Her practice has spread across several suburban offices. The main office is in Langhorne, and she also maintains office locations in Doylestown, Jenkintown and Phoenixville. Those offices allow her to meet clients across different parts of the region and to appear in a variety of county courts when litigation is necessary.
Colleagues describe her as steady and pragmatic in handling family law files. She handles the routine and the complex: divorces, custody matters, support calculations and settlement negotiations. Her background in securities regulation is an unusual element for a family law practitioner; it can become relevant when financial issues in a domestic matter involve business interests or complex assets.
Her day-to-day work mixes litigation, client counseling and mediated settlements. She continues to accept cases and to serve clients out of her multiple offices in southeastern Pennsylvania. She currently focuses her practice on family law and mediation across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
