About Karen L.

Karen L. Lewis trained first as a social scientist and then as a lawyer. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Gerontology from the University of Southern California before earning her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law. Those two degrees frame how she approaches legal problems: an eye for human needs paired with formal legal training.

Her undergraduate work at USC immersed her in the study of aging, health systems, and social supports. That background gave her a perspective on the nonlegal forces that shape clients’ lives. At Santa Clara, she added the law’s tools—research, advocacy, and the rules that govern rights and responsibilities.

She is admitted to practice in California. Over the years she has worked in the state’s legal community, developing practical skills in counseling clients through complex decisions. Colleagues describe her as methodical and steady; clients often value explanations that translate legal concepts into everyday terms. She favors clear communication and careful preparation.

In day-to-day work she combines legal analysis with attention to the personal circumstances that brought clients to her office. That approach informs how she evaluates options and outlines possible outcomes. She tends to organize cases so clients understand both the legal pathway and the likely next steps, whether matters are resolved through negotiation or through court processes.

Outside formal advocacy, she has kept connections to topics that intersect with law—aging, healthcare access, and community services. Those interests shape how she reads a file and the types of questions she asks when building a record. They also affect how she prioritizes client concerns beyond paperwork and deadlines.

Her professional path has been local and practice-focused rather than public-facing. She maintains ties to colleagues in the California bar and continues to follow developments in state law that affect everyday legal problems. She currently practices law in California.
